Help word temp files not being deleted

By john.jones79 ·
Can anyone help I have a file server that will not delete temp files once a word doc has been closed in the corect manner. this seems to happen even if a document is placed on the c: drive. this is not a case of corrupt files.

Help word temp files not being deleted

This is not a problem, it's a feature. (:')
Word leaves shards of temp files where ever the file was stored. They start with a tilde (~) and should be deleted on a regular basis.
Here's a paper you might want to read:

this is a prroblem not a feature as the normal behaviour of word 2000 is to open a temp file in the same dir as the original doc eg: ~$ocument.doc and once the doc is closed the temp file is deleted. This happens on every system i have apart from one of my servers where the temp file is created but not deleted? Help.........

You are correct that normally these files should be deleted when the user closes Word - assuming that they close/save the file and close Word normally. What SR level are you on for Office 2000? I believe the latest service pack may fix this problem. I have seen this problem with Office XP, and I know that we had to load some patches, among which was the latest SP for that version of Office. Hope this helps!

Currently we are only using the virgin office install. I am going to try the service pack, but can anyone give me an answer as to why it has suddenly started occurring after the file server crashed. This happens as domain admin as well.
