Help!Can't log in Win2k using Win98

By sphynx ·
Hello,
I just successfully install win2k server and installed active directory with pre-windows2000 and dns.The problem is that my win98 can't login it says "The domain password
you supplied is not correct, or access to your
logon server has been denied."

It worked when im using dhcp but if i use static ip address it doesn't work. Any idea?

Thanks.

Check on Win98 computer with "winipcfg" your IP configuration.
Also verify user account with User Manager for Domain.

I just solve it myself and want to share it with you and the rest. I've just findout that the problem is on the dns setting of the client, in our case we have 2 existing dns server and the one is causing the problem and i correct it. To solve this you need to remove any existing dns entry on the client side and put the win2k ip address to be the dns or just simply remove any dns entry on the client side if you are on the process isolating the cause.

Anyhow, Thanks for your response and will give you the point as consideration.

Thanks.

Make sure that the win98 machine account on the servers has a checkmark in the "allow pre-windows 2000 to use this account" (or something similar) it's on the bottom of the account sheet.

If you can connect successfully when you are connfigured to use DHCP, but not when configured for a static IP address, I would suspect that your static IP settings are not correct.

Are you using WINS? WINS is critical for Win98 computers to findresources in a Win2K domain. If you are using WINS, it's possible that DHCP is broadcasting the IP address for the WINS server, but that information is being enetered when a static IP address is applied.

An option is to go ahead and use DHCP.

Are you sure it's not just a matter of a bad password?
