I am having trouble with DNS errors and i am sure that my DNS on my Windows 2000 Server is not configured properly. The problem is that i dont fully understand the DNS and how to configure it. I need a persons explanation and not a text book answer,would you please be able to shed some light on configuring DNS if i told you the following was in my network:
Windows 2000 Server
10 Workstations running Windows 2000 using Static IP Addresses
A Netgear Router
ADSL Direct Telstra Connection
Ialso dont know what should be installed and running with DNS, currently WINS is running and so was DHCP but i diabled the DHCP service and dont know weather to do the same for WINS, please give me an idea of what they are used for and if in fact i need them.
The errors i am getting revolve around registering and deregistering the DNS:
Event ID – 5775
Deregistration of the DNS record ‘gc._msdcs.firebug.lifesafety.com.au. 600 IN A 203.51.19.156’ failed with the following error:
DNS server not authoritative for zone.
and
Event ID – 5774
Registration of the DNS record ‘_ldap._tcp.firebug.lifesafety.com.au. 600 IN SRV 0 100 389 LSISERV01.firebug.lifesafety.com.au.’ failed with the following error:
DNS server not authoritative for zone.
There are basically alot more like this, please help me.
