Her PC Does not work any more…

by terreaultguy . Updated 18 years, 4 months ago

Hi
I got my self in a pinch.

A neighbor had a working PC with Microsoft XP Home and she wanted my help because she taught that the previous Tech that installed it had probably Fixed it with a back door to get access to her computer (I taught she was a bit paranoid) But I said yes.

Her are the steps I did to get in trouble.

I got her Kaspersky to protect her pc.
But that did not comfort her she wanted me to format and install an other operating system.

So I got her Vista Ultimate.
First problem could not burn the DVD.
she only had a cd burner.

So I could not Start fresh until she got a DVD burner. I used a linux boot disk to resize her
hard disc The C: partition was to small that went well.

Then I proceded to make a windows vista ultimate upgrade. wonce that done I made a suggestion that got me in trouble I said that by beeing the primary user with no password was looking for trouble. So i went to give her a new password. Vista asked me for the pass word and confirmation and when I clicked it refused it some thing felt wrong.

I restarted Vista to test the user’s password
guess what it refused it. Since the user was from the old windows XP home and had no password I tried no password it refused that.

Now i was locked out from vista And I had an other problem when I did a shut down vista saved her file and the PC turned it self off. But 5 to 8 seconds after it restarted by it self.

Stuck and tired by then I shut the power and said that I would fix it the next day.

More trouble on the way. The next day she knocks on my door and has a new DVD burner in her hands. Ok so I install it tinking that now I will be able to format de C: drive and make
a clean Vista install and give the new user a password.

I power the PC with a setup CD in the drive
At startup the light blinks but nothing happens on screen. No bios text scrollin on screen just a small request pop up saying that the monitor was not receiving any analog signal

but the tower was still flashing the light on th cd drive and I also could see the red flashing led from the hard disc.

Now the sort version.

1. cant get in to see The Bios Setting
2. do not see any text on the monitor
3. and if I did I would still be locked out of
Vista
4. And I am not shure if I Still have the
problem off the PC restarting by it self.

What a mess!!

Can some one help or suggest a solution.

Thanks,
Bye – Guy
