I know a lot of Canadians post here, and since America is about to stagger through another reconsideration of its national health care policy, I’d like to ask a question.
Given that you have a single payer system, how satisfied are you? How are your out-of-pocket costs? Are you satisfied with the quality of care and the speed of its delivery? How do the doctors and the health industry feel about it?
Part of the reason I ask is that right-wing public opinionators (Limbaugh, Hannity, etc.) take it as a given that any Canadians with enough cash come across the border for American care, because Canadian care is rationed and you just can’t get treatment in quick order. Any truth to the story? When you go to the doctor’s do you feel like recruits at a draft physical, told to stand in line and shut up and wait indefinitely for nothing to happen? Or, are you 99.9% satisfied, and wouldn’t want it any other way?
