hi-lighted desktop icons

OS:Windows XP

click once, click all. both mouse and keyboard functions select multiple items on the desktop. If I click one app to open, all of the selected apps open. No matter what application I'm in, I can not select just one item. In email, I click one email and decide to go the next email, and both get selected. I have had this issue reoccur several times in the past with different users, and we have either restarted the machine, or replaced keyboards and mice. However, replacing the hardware never really trully works. any ideas?

The obvious thing is that the CTRL key is stuck.

Cordless?

Are the mouses and keyboards you're using cordless? If so relocate the reciever for them ensuring they are clear of you computers case and monitor (and any other electrical devices).

kybd/mouse

to answer both, ctrl key isnt stuck, and both peripherals are ps2. I have another user complaining about the same thing, and I have replaced the keyboard and it seemed to work for a little while, but now it's appeared again. I will go ahead and replace both peripherals again for the user, but I'm not sure this is a valid fix.

any updates?

by gr.architecture In reply to apologies

Hi. I have the exact problem with my laptop, and also was first told to reinstall keyboard/touchpad and mouse drivers. worked for awhile, then came back again. i changed mice, again, worked awhile, then came back. do you have any progress at your end on a fix? thanks
