Hidden attribute removal

By ral ·
How do you remove the hidden attribute on the _Rescue folder of a Compaq running Windows ME. The folder is checked as hidden and it is greyed out. The ATTRIB from the DOS Command prompt will not work as a file in this folder is active. The drive is 60G and DOS 6.22 does not see the drives at all, therefore ATTRIB under DOS 6.22 doesn't work. Ontrack's DOS_UTIL hangs when attempting to access the drive. Is there a stand-alone non-windows utility that will access file/folders and their attributes on large drives?

How about your Windows ME boot disk? Failing that, give the Norton Utilities a try.

Try this.. boot into safe mode then try the Command Prompt.. goto the root by typing CD\ then type ATTRIB _rescue -H .. Starting in safe mode should not load the file.

Best of luck
