Hidden Messages??

By larcat ·
I'm stumped again.
NT Server w/ Exchange 5.5(Build 2650.24 SP3)

I have set limits at 15M for email storage for all employees. Many people go over the limit and they receive a warning that they did so. They simply start to delete some email and they are OK. Some have deleted all their email after receiving a warning but they keep getting the warning. Then I look at the mailbox resource and they are indeed over the limit but their email program (Outlook) says they have no mail.

Does anyone know how I can fix this?

Thanks,
Larry

Check for the clients having journaling on. It does not take stashing too many big spreadsheets as attachments to the journal before you hit 15mb.

Good luck.

I looked at all the PC's involved and this is not activated.

It might be that your Exchange server is setup to accept mail over the limit but not to forward it to the clients.
Thats why they have no new mail in outlook and when you look in Exchange server you see that they do have more mail.

All the people still get their email even when they receive the "Over the Limit" message.
One person deleted all their email, they still get a warning and when I look at their Resources Used, this is what I see -- Total K =23,974 - Total no. Items = 1138 and Total no. Associates Messages = 67 but it should say 0!

Thanks,
Larry

Once the mail is deleted, are they emptying the deleted items folder?
Users Storage Limits encompess their entire mailbox, which includes Contacts, Deleted, Inbox, Journal, sent items, etc...

The delete folder is emptied. Also, on the server side, I do not save any deletions.

Double check to make sure user's are archiving all their old calendar items.

On the server you could try lowering the deleted item retention period and running the consistency adjuster.
