    Hide control panel

    Locked

    by byteside ·

I want to hide the control panel from certain users. I have seen this done on other machines but dont know how it was done. I have certain users who should not be allowed to touch a computer that are messing with things in the control panel. Running Win2K OS (client) and Server2000 small buisness. Not sure if it needs to be done from client machine of server. Any help would be great.
    Thanks.

To hide the Control Panel, Printers, and My Computer in Explorer and on the Start Menu, apply the following Windows NT registry hack:
      Hive: HKEY_CURRENT_USER
      Key: Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer
      Name: NoSetFolders

      Type: REG_DWORD
      Value: 1

      Hi,
If you are running Active Directory, go to Active Directory Users and Computers (ADUC). Once there, create a new OU for the users you want to have control panel disabled. Move those users to that OU. Then create a New Group Policy Object (OU properties > Group Policy > New). Now choose Edit and Group Policy MMC opens up. From there navigate to User Configuration > Administrative Templeates > Control Panel. On the right side you notice policy setting Disable Control Panel. Double click on it, read the Explin tab and then under Policy choose Enabled. Now close the Group Policy MMC and hit OK on OU Properties and then close ADUC. Next time the user logs in he/she finds control panel itmes and Control Panel itself inaccessible.
Something to be aware of. If you have created a group policy for the users at the OU level before, then you have to link that group policy also to the new OU.
