I’m running XP Pro SP3 fully updated.
In HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Current version\Run,I have 4 entries that belong to software that has been uninstalled for a good while.
I can neither manually delete them, nor can any registry cleaning tool.
I am Administrator and only user of the machine.
All user groups for Run (Administrators, Power Users, etc.) with checkable permissions boxes have full permissions, with the exception of Creator Owner ( its box for Full Control is unchecked and if I check it and click “Apply”, it reverts to being unchecked ).
The user groups that have clickable full permissions enabled are Administrators, Peter, and Everyone.
There are some user groups whose permissions boxes are grayed out, but they show full control. Those boxes are titled Power Users. SYSTEM, and Users.
I have, starting at HKLM and then also for the subcategories Software, Microsoft, Windows, Current Version, and Run, verified that all clickable user group permissions are set to full control.
Please advise what steps to follow to remove the obsolete registry entries.
Note that I don’t consider myself an advanced user but am good at following detailed step-by-step instructions.
