Ho to modify old laptop as KVM console?

by nassar.danuningrat . Updated 18 years, 8 months ago

Hi,

I currently have ATEN non-IP KVM switch 8 ports with 15″CRT & ps2 mouse/kboard connection as the console. With all the appliances & servers are piling up the rack, I need to remove this huge monitor to save some spaces in our rack.

I’m aware there’s an option to get a rackmount LCD KVM console connected to KVM switch, but the cost is too high here (> $1,000). I’m thinking to use an old pentium 2 laptop (Prntium 3) as the console monitor of the existing KVM switch. The laptop has the VGA output port & a ps2 port.

Is there any way to modify the laptop as the KVM console…like those LCD-integrated rackmount console?

rgds,
N
