home folders

By beginner ·
i am learning Windows Server 2003. i am trying to create home folders by using the connect to option of the users profile tab in the users properties folder in Active Directory. i choose the drive and type in the path to the server, when i click the ok button i received the message, " the \\server01\home folders\username home folder was not created because you do no have create access to the server. The user account was updated with the new folder value but you must create the directory manually after obtaining the required access rights". what am i doing wrong? i am logged on with the domain administrator account at the server. i am using an evaluation copy of the software. help

The problem is writen in the message: you said on AD to create on the >shared< folder homefolders on server01 the %username% home folder but it is not shared the homefolder!!

Share the homefolder directory and you'll have the problem solved.

thanks vladolar, but the home folder was shared from the start. both users' and administrator's account have full access control.

you need to give appropiate permissions to the Share. Remember permissions are accumative so even if you have full control (NTFS permission), the highest share permission set as default is Read. Change Read to Full Control.
