Home Network

By steve-jackson ·
I have a new desktop, running XP Home, hardwired to a wireless router, and a laptop, running win98SE, which connects to the router by wireless. Both machines are able to connect to the internet. I am trying to create a home network with these two. The laptop was originally networked with a previous desktop which ran w98. I am having difficulty creating the network, despite running the network setup wizard from the XP machine, and running a network setup disk on the laptop. Does the fact that Norton Security is enabled on the desktop have an effect, as well as Network Neighbourhood for the previous network? Or am I doing something else wrong?

yes Norton Internet Security will interfer with file sharing. Open up Norton Internet Security. You'll see a system status screen, click on Norton Personal firewall then in the lower right corner click on configure. With Norton Personal firewall page open, click on the networking tab. Add it the subnet range both computers are on into the trusted zone. click ok. This will allow file sharing between the computers and only allow those computers in the trust zone access to the computer running Norton Internet Security.
