Home Network

By mrwillybil ·
I have tried many time to set up my home network between the desktop and laptop. I got the desktop to share files with the laptop, but for some reason, the laptop will not share with the desktop. I've checked every setting but still can not get them to work with each other. Am I missing something here?

The simple answer: maybe. What exactly have you tried? What is your configuration? Are the systems running XP or are the OS'es diferent?

Have you got the firewall enabled on the Laptop; disable it for testing connectivity? Make sure both systems are in the same workgroup, enable File and Printer sharing in your network properties. Is wireless involved? Also if in the same workgroup, create the same user account on both systems if you want to bypass authentication on the network. Hope this helps.

Problem solved here, turned out my firewall blocked it. While I had set the desktop up to the laptop, inadvertantly, not the laptop. Once done, now I have a complete network. Thanks for the help!
