Home Network problem

By cansona ·
For some reason, a home network which was working relatively well has stopped, and I can't figure out why. I am connected through a Linksys Wireless G router. I can access the internet on my laptop, so I know the connections are good. But for some reason I can't access the shared files between computers. This is a new problem, as I was previously able to do so. How can I troubleshoot the issue and find the problem?

Unplug the router for about 10 seconds

Then try again.

If this just started today remove the Windows Updates that became available yesterday and see if it works now.

Oh, apparently it's connected to AVG Firewall

I just turned off my AVG Firewall on bothcomputers, and suddenly the shared files are accessible. I guess that's my problem, though I didn't change the Firewall setting between the time the home net worked and when it stopped. I've sent a question to AVG and hopefully they'll help me sort it out.

I can not give you the exact directions but you need to go into the Exceptions and allow File & Printer Sharing. :)

Have been known to change settings from time to time. You may way to check both your charing settings and your firewall settings. I'm not familiar with the AVG utilities butt here should be some option to allow certain addresses through.
