    Home Networking with PC

I would like to Use Internet connection serving (ICS)using a PC with Windows ME OS and a imac using OS 9. The PC is connected to the internet using an external ADSL modem.
I have a second NIC card installed in the PC and ethernet cables connecting the imac to the PC. However, I can’t see the imac on my PC Neighbourhood and can’t seem to get that portion of the Home Network going either.
So where do I go from here?

We use an application called PC MACLAN file server on the PC which allows the PC to talk to the mac.

I would really suggest getting a router. Linksys has a wonderful 4 or 8 port hub that will work wonders for you. You will also need a 3rd party application for the mac to see the PC, or the PC to see the mac. Thursby.com has some good options. Iuse TSStalk on my company LAN for the PCs to see the Macs.

With the router, you obviously won’t need to use Internet Connection Sharing….but if you insist: make sure you are using a crossover cable to connect the two machines. Make sure you specify the IP of the Mac is 192.168.1.x (x being a different number than that of the PC), and set the Default gateway to be the IP of the PC which should be 192.168.1.1 if I remember correctly. Then, setup the ICS connection to allow on-demand dialing, and you should be off and running….You will still need some sort of 3rd party app for either machine to see the other.

      Good Luck.
