Home Page cannot be changed

By coyledavid2003 ·
Home page keeps going back to:
http://any-find.com/index.htm
One of these rogue sites I guess. Obviously I can change it from Tools>Internet Options>Home page, etc. but on a reboot the homepage goes back to above.
Have tried Ad-aware (ver.) and Spybot (search and destroy) to no avail. Or maybe I have not been using these softwares properly. There is no problem entry in the Run area of the Registry. If someone knows a better way please let me know. I will try anything at this stage!
(using wins 2000, SP3, no recent updates)
Thx in advance...

First, did you update the reference file for either program when you scanned your system?

The creators of these mal-ware programs and the writers of the removal programs are playing a cat and mouse game. Much like the virus writers and the anti-virus software companies.

The next step is a program such as Start Page Guard.
These programs require you to agree whenever an application attempts to change your start page.

I tried this s/w. It looked good at first, but on re-boot (or re-start) the selection has to be made for my preferred homepage. In other words the default homepage goes back to the unwanted one. Thx anyway.

There is a powerful (dangerous) tool that can be found at www.cnet.com called HiJackthis that is made to handle your kind of problem. be careful though this tool can also damage your system if you use it incorrectly.

Looked good at first, but after deleting the files that look suspect, the unwanted homepage still comes back on re-boot! Maybe there is/are some files I am not deleting and should. But I am cautious because it is not clear if thes files are baddies or not. Thx anyway.

In Adaware look at the name of the file it is finding. Windows 2000 does not have msconfig to show your startup files, but you can get one off the web at www.download.com (search for msconfig). Install that and see what is in your Selective Startup. Try to delete it...though it may return. If it returns, boot up in SAFE MODE and delete the actual files. They may be hidden.
