Home page is changed in IE.

By randerson7 ·
What has caused my IE in XP to only open with a Search engine called "onemoresearch.net"? The URL that shows in my address is called "about blank". It also prevents me from going to Microsoft? It brings pop-ups aplenty and has hijacked IE!

Go to http://www.majorgeeks.com

Down load and update Ad Aware SE and Spy Bot Search and Destroy and the fix file for Spy Bot S&amp.

someone downloaded and installed something ( ie addon ) that changed it.

inernet exploiter addons are a gread addware tool, as the adware is on the website, not your system.
rip ALL plugins out of ie, then only allw one's from trusted companies.

I've nursed many machines back to health with these, but you may still have to manually edit the Windows Registry on occasion to eliminate some nasties such as WinTools, KeenValue, and Incredimail (Incredi-anything). Here are my checklists:

Spyware Removal Checklist

1. Boot into Safe Mode with Networking (some spyware can only be removed in Safe Mode).
2. Open Add/Remove programs and remove any application that both you and the principal user do not recognize or deem to be spyware.
3. Install Spybot Search & Destroy, update it, and run it on the infected system.
4. Install Ad-Aware, update it, and run it on the infected system.
5. Launch HijackThis and click the Scan button. Make sure you run this after other malware removal apps. (WARNING: Reference the HijackThis tutorial at http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/htlogtutorial.html before removing anything.)
6. Reboot and run both Ad-Aware and Spybot again until the system is clean.
7. Launch Internet Explorer and browse the Web to verify Winsock was not broken while removing
spyware. If you cannot browse the Web, run the WinSockFix utility and perform another Web test.

Good answer from dmiles.

One thing to add.

While in safe mode, run msconfig and disable startup items. After PC is clean, selectively re-enable items of real use.
