    Home to Office

    Locked

    by elwin9 ·

Is there a procedure that someone can explain or point me to instructions to conect to my office from home without being at the office to answer the call. Will I be able to connect to MYOB at the office to work on? Also is it possible to access the internet on the office PC if it is connected with another line, also from home.

If I understand your question s correctly then:-

      1) Yes most telecom companies can supply a call divert function so calls to your office are forwarded to your home number – contact your telecom supplier for details/price

      2) using software such as nortons PC anywhere you can remotely logon and use your office PC from home

      3) similarly to the above – mainly depends on configuration, is it onto internet via lan or dial up? if the form it is possable though tricky – the latter – wouldnt even bother!

Not interested in call diversion. Networking from home to the office. When the home PC dials to the office how do I get it to answer the call to start a network sesion.

Your question is too vague to accurately answer. What operating system are you running at work?
Is you office PC running on a LAN with other office PC’s?
When you say “connect,” do you mean just access the files on your office PC? Or do you mean that you actually need to run programs that are installed on your office PC?
Does your office PC have internet access? Is it dial-up or broadband (DSL, cable, dedicated line)? Is that internet access shared with other PC’s?
Does your office PC have a modem?

Answering some of these questions may help determine a viable solution.

Office has two running XP pro, House has one with XPpro. I only want to access data and not run program off the work PC. At the moment the office has dial-up internet. The Office PC has two modems each connected to a different phone line(each has its own phone number). Because of the lack of answers I will problely go broadband and set up a VPN. I wanted to use dial-up because when I leave work, my ISP gives me 10Hours blocks before it cuts off. If I could connect to access files I could also use the internet at the same time from home through the office PC. Just how will the Office PC’s other modem answer my home modem to make the connection not using the VPN? Its clear what I want, its just very difficult to ask.
      Thanks all the same.
