Horizontal space thru text.

By SlayerX ·
I have a panasonic 2023 24 pin dot matrix printer that is spacing a horizontal line thru the text of the print job. Even on test page half of the letters are on one line then a space (line) then the other half of the letters.(splits the letter of the text so that an H would have a || on the top and another || two lines down) I have tried reinstalling drivers and still have no success. It is a win98 machine, updated drivers..(tried win98 and panasonic), tried changing bias settings..the strange part is that it worked last week and if I print thru the network to another of the same printers, it will work.

This sounds like it is simply a problem with your printer. I would guess that one or more of the pins in the printhead have gone bad. Was the test page you mentioned a Windows test page? If so, try doing a printer self-test, the manual should show you how or possibly on the printer itself, usually holding certain buttons down while powering up the printer. If you get the same results on a printer self-test, your printer needs server-this has nothing to do with your computer.

I?m afraid that the printer is faulty. Probably a gear or a timing belt are damaged ? missing/broken tooth. Then the printhead prints a half of letter and jumps a space, and prints another half.

Why don't you try with a new bubble ink jet printer??
It's a Joke..
The problem may be in the page size selected by your aplication or in the default printer propertie, Try setting a lower wide value.

Is this printer on a print server? Do you have the drivers installed on the print server?

If printing is working properly through the network, then it is the drivers on the client computers that are corrupted. You need to completely remove the printer from the client computer, check the registry to verify that all instances of this print driver are removed, reboot, and then re-install the driver version from your network. This should work.

Sometimes removing printers requires a reboot. sometimes Windows sees part of the printer drivers as being in use and will not release those drivers at uninstall until a reboot takes place. Try that. Then make sure that you are installing the same version of drivers that exist on your working computers.

Hope this helps.
