Hey all. This is my first post at TechRepublic and I’m sure it won’t be my last. This site has helped me out tremendously in all my IT related problems. Now I hope someone can help me out with this issue.
Our company has previously purchased a domain at register.com called coxnewsletters.com. What I am currently trying to do is figure out how to host it and set it up for the users to use it as email.
For instance, I want the users to have an email extension of user@coxnewsletters.com where external people can email them with that extension.
I currently have two domain controllers running windows server 2003 and another domain controller running Exchange Server 2003.
I read about creating MX records and googled as much information as I could, but to no avail. I know how to add the user@coxnewsletters into Active Directory, but I don’t know how to host the domain at all.
I tried but couldn’t ping the domain at all. It currently has its own IP address of 216.21.229.197 and I’m not sure if I’m suppose to use that.
I logged onto register.com and they give you the option to change the DNS server, MX, CNAME, PTR records, but my DNS server has a private IP address of 192.168.1.164.
I’m pretty much at a lost right now and hope some one can point me in the right directions.
Thanks in advance!
