Hot spots and mobile workers form a WiFi love affair

By jasonhiner Moderator ·
For a growing number of workers, especially the highly-mobile, their office has a new look ? an empty one. For them, today?s office is quite simple: a laptop, a WLAN card, and any of the ever-growing WiFi hot spots that are popping up throughout this little planet. And the businesses that are running these hot spots are loving it, too. Many workers have reduced or eliminated office expenses and businesses that offer free hot spots have a great way to get new butts in the seats, as this USA Today story explains (http://www.usatoday.com/tech/wireless/data/2004-09-12-wifi-cafes_x.htm). What implications do these new working conditions mean for IT departments that support these mobile workers?
