Hot Standby Routing Protocol

My company is putting together a redundancy plan and we plan to use HSRP with Cisco routers. We have Netware servers at all our sites. My question is has anyone used HSRP with IPX, if so what has the experience been like? What problems did you encounter? Do you know of any know issues that we can research?

The NetWare servers will run all IP. So there shouldn't be an issue.

However, HSRP Cisco routers will handle all routable protocols. Here is the link.

It works very well in my environment, but it can take about 10 minutes for the topology change to be fully reflected in the tables. So some users might report issues with servers disappearing and under Win9X that means they'll have to reboot (not always but most times). Windows 2000 desktops won't have to reboot, but they will have to log off and back on (sometimes).

There are really two ways to setup HSRP. The first is to set one router to take over as the other router in case the first in a set fails. The other is when you have both routers running, but have comminications to them occur over a ghost IP address. This will allow either routerto take the connection and even if one fails, the ghost IP is still there and the other router starts handling all traffic. Things will be a bit slower, but at least traffic is moving.
