hot swap ide drives

By ncs ·
Is there a way to hot swap ide drives, other than disable and enable the drive..???
We have a windows 2k server servicepak 4.. one 40gig ultra scsi drive ..two hot swap drive bays and two 40 gig wd eide drives in caddies..
We want to use two 40gig drives as backup by rotating the drives daily..

Forget the hot swap trays ,get an external IDE /USB disk enclosure from somebody like ADS(about $50 or $60 bucks).

You can hot swap with no issues.

Just remenber, if you are using tape backup software(Backup Exec)to backup to those drives, only 9.x support the hot swap .

The hardware has to support the hot swap technology. There are ide systems that do support this.

Most of these systems will provide you with raid capabilities.

Just do a google search on "hot swap ide". I got over 1700 hits.

Good Luck Lee
