Hot Swapping drives with raid 1

By SMOR27 ·
POS system that we are currently using is setup as raid 1. The POS app has issues. Upgrading isn't going to smooth. Suggestions brought to table was to reconfigure setup and just swap drives. Testing in Lab lost data and a drive. Any suggestions?

Hot Swapping drives with raid 1

if you are using hardware raid, look up what to do when one drive fails using raid 1 on their website. usually you just replace failed drive (which identical model if possible, otherwise as similar in size and speeed as possible) (use their diag utility to see which drive is bad if you can tell by looking,/feeling) and the RAID fixes itself...
if software raid, what os?
it is going to go like this: break mirror, backup data, fix drive, reconfigure mirror...
hope this helps...

Yes we are using Hardware raid. What we did today in the lab was this. We pulled the drive from bay 1. We had to use the server raid cd to break the array. Then allow the drives to sync up. Which took about a half hour (unexceptable in my thought asthe computer is down during this)everything then worked fine. The second test we pulled both drives, popped 2 new drives in. Booted up pressed F7 to changed configuration on scsi controller. Once the system finished booting everthing was fine. Took about 10 minutes.
