How 2 hyperlink 2 install a ntwrk printr

By JimMueller ·
As someone from another site asked so eloquently last year, with no
usable response:

> Is it possible to hyperlink text to make it install a network printer?

The PC will perform the action I desire if I type directly in the
Browser's address field "\\print_server\printer_name" (using the
correct names and no quotes of course) but I cannot figure out how
to accomplish this with a web page.

My goal is to create a page on our intranet where users can see the
location of the printers, and when clicked, the PC will open the
printer's queue window or install the printer if it is not already installed.
Simply putting \\print_server\printer_name as the lnk results in the
server trying to find the page on the web host, as it should. Is there a
URL protocol I should lead the link with (ie: instead of http:, ftp: or
file:).

Hmmm... I wonder if this "User Deleted" stuff is due to the account
creation process. When I saw I was User Deleted, I logged out (tho
it said I was logged in), then logged in as me. Now I have the correct
alias showing.

Using IP address instead of Server_Name, eg. 10.0.0.1\printer_name
