How can I add or remove a screen saver?

By wlangle ·
I am using a Windows 2000 machine.I would like to know if there is a way that I can add or remove a screen saver, of my choice, from the drop down list in the Display Properties window. I can not seem to find where this folder lives.I am assumming that there is one somewhere.
If I click on the background tab, in the same window, I have a browse button were I am able to add the file of my choice to use as a background picture. No such button exsists for the screen saver tab. Would there be away to get to this folder so I can add or remove screen savers?

First, nearly ALL screen savers have their "core" file in the Windows (i386) folders.
You will find some in the Windows root folder. But most are in the system and system32 folders.

Most screen savers when installed will add themselves to the list of available screen savers. Unless, you installed them to a folder of your choice.

CAUTION: Moving, changing or deleting system files can cause system problems.

The list of available screen savers is simply a list of the .scr files in the system folders.

You may need to enable the option in Windows Explorer to view system files, and disable the hide extensions for known file types to locate the screen savers.

In addition to the .scr file, many screen savers have additional files that are required for the saver to run.

Some of the default Windows screen savers can be removed from the Windows components tab of the add / remove programs menu.

Many 3rd party screen savers can be removed from add / remove programs.

Look in Add/Remove-windows components to see if Screen savers were even added. If you are on a network, they may not be allowed.
