    How can i build a private SMS text msg system?

    My client wants its own SMS text messaging system. They want the ability to manage their own keywords, distribute text messages and build internal apps that use the text messages to kickstart various workflows. I’m not familiar with the mechanics of SMS so I need to educate myself. Any suggestions?

      Thanks for the search keywords. I already had these resources (not complaining, just saying). Does anyone know of a primer or book that describes how to build the functionality? Any language example would be fine as a resource.

      I see that WordPress has some SMS plugins/widgets that allow you to text to customers. I’m thinking that a WordPress site plus widgets could be extended with additional custom code to support the features. This may be the best option.

      I’ll clarify my request since I know a little more than I did yesterday. We want to send bulk messages to a customer list who has opted in. I’ve looked at a couple vendors who want to charge $300-500 setup fees plus $200+ per month plus additional fees for our own defined keyword. This is for a small business client. While not a budget buster, this does not seem like a service that requires that kind of expense. They also have several other stores and restaurants that they would use this feature for. The fees identified by the service providers want that much for every store.

      So I’m looking for some education to determine if it would be more cost-effective to have someone build a SMS system for the client or build a wrapper around an SMS system that already exists.

      Have you looked at TMS? http://www.textmessageserver.co.uk/
      It’s a UK based product – SMS has been around for a long time in the UK.
