How can I check the progress of a defrag when running as a scheduled task?

By smith85 ·

Basically I've set up a scheduled task on a Win Server 2k3 R2 box to carry out a disc defrag. I can see that the scheduled task is running by looking at the 'status' column within scheduled tasks, which is fine but what I want to do is check the actual progress of the disc defrag.

Now obviously when you???re not running the disc defrag utility as a scheduled task, you just open the GUI for the utility and view it from there. But when you try to view the GUI when the scheduled task is running, you cannot do this as the scheduled task is already using the utility and Windows only allows one instance to be open at any one time.

So therefore, does anyone know if there is any way to view progress of a disc defrag whilst the scheduled task is running? I've exhausted several resources on this, so I'm out of ideas on this one!!

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Install Diskeeper

Install Diskeeper, since the defrag utility shipped with Windows (R) Operating System is a reduced-functionality OEM version of this. Then you can check its progess and view report after your scheduler task finishes.
