How can I create a text filter button for a report in access 2007?

Hi I've been working in IT for the last 6 months or so and have basic knowledge on how to create a database. I have created a database with a list of equipment and to what user they are associated with. I have created a report which displays this information but would like a button where I can type in a name and it finds the equipment linked to that user. e.g. if i were to search "John" it would bring up all those users with the name John, regardless of their last names. I've been able to create a parameter value but i have to spell the name exactly correct otherwise nothing appears in the report. I also found that if I right click the report I can use a text filter but I would like this in a button to make it easier for other users.
