How can I get my USB card to work?

By wellsken ·
I have just purchased a USB card for my Pentium I, and when I try to intstall it, Windows 95 says it cannot find the correct driver. The card did not have any software with it, but said that Windows would have the proper drivers. I have checked that I am using a proper version of Windows 95 and I tried using the Windows 95 CD to install any drivers, but still no luck. I even downloaded a program called usbsupp.exe when my computer said that it could not be found, but still no luck. Is there a special trick to installing hardware into a PC that I am overlooking pehaps? I am by no means an IT specialist, but I have installed other hardware which I only needed to follow the directions and everything worked well. This one has me stumped.Any suggestions?

Are you 100% certain you have the correct version of Windows 95? The Windows CD should specifically say "with USB support" under the "Windows 95" title on the bottom of the disk. If that is the case, you might check www.windrivers.com and search for updated drivers for the specific brand and model of USB card.

There are also some USB cards that require at least Windows 98 for the OS. We sell a very good USB card here, but one drawback to it is that it will not work on Windows 95 systems. I'm wondering if that might be the case with the card you have?

Is the new caed PCI or ISA?
If it is in a slot that the motherboard shares on IRQ for, then one or both of the devices will malfunction or confuse the other.
If it is ISA, is the required IRQ set aside in the BIOS setup, or is PnP giving the settings ... ?
You say win95 and P1, so these things are important to not be left to Plug and Pray, which was then, and still is, in flux ...

Hope this helps to get it going ...
