What version of SQL?????? I had an issue with SQL 2000 which required the installation of MDAC 2.6 first due to the install failed trying to install the version that comes with SQL 2000.

SQL 6.5 Will not run on Windows 2000 (windows 2000 disallows it, it will actually run but microsoft wants to force you to upgrade) you can get oracle to install easily, and mysql to install easily.

Otherwise go back to NT 4.0 server. there are no real reasons to upgrade to 2000 on your server unless you are adding USB prephrials to the server.
