How can I open a password protected zip file?

By mfcemail ·
I have two zip files, password protected, which unfortunatley I forgot the password.

They are mine, I have a pretty good idea what the password is, I just need to find out the first letter/number.

I tried several software, those with brute attack, etc, they all suck, all they do is try to see if one of THEIR pre-programmed password will work.

Any help?

Tks!

you have an idea what the password is then why don't you try using those passwords? that sounds like the easier solution to me.

thank you for trying to help, but do you honestly think I have not tried thousands of times to use the ones I think should work??? Do you really find me that stupid?

Not sure I understand 'their pre-programmed password'

A brute force zip cracking tool such as Elcomsoft will do a brute force attack, if that's what you need to do. You cannot simply discover the first letter/number without cracking the whole password.

If you need to find out the first letter number, then try all 36 numbers and letters until you get the right one.

Again, thank you for trying to help, but can you elaborate more on your suggestion about using the 36 letters/numbers??? As for bruteforce, have you seen one at work? The ones I saw at work were simply trying to match the file password with one of them.

"..., I just need to find out the first letter/number."

password cracking isn't the kind of assistance we provide. there is no way for us to know if you are telling us the truth about being the owner of the files.

To clarify:

First of all, TR forum rules forbid help with hacking security controls.

Second, if 'you just need to find out the first letter or number', then you can TRY all 26 letters of the alphabet and numbers 0-9 (36 total). Hardly a brute-force attack
