How can I open excel files on vista laptop connected to wireless network

By mick.l ·
I am trying to access excel files that are on my XP Home desktop which is wirelessly connected to my Vista Home premium laptop.
I used to be able to open these files no problem, however now excel freezes on my laptop. If I open excel files that are on my laptop from XP these open instantly.
I have rebooted several times, carried out system restore to no avail. Can anyone help.

Temporary Fix

by AdamBeck.IT In reply to How can I open excel file ...

This may not be the best solution to your answer but it has worked for me. I'm assuming you are just trying to open the files by double-clicking on the file, which would cause Excel to load. Instead, try having Excel already open and then do a File-->Open.

Again this is more of a workaround that I've used when I've had my applications freeze like that.

How big is the file?

The file load will time out and fail if the wireless connection is too slow (bad signal, whatever).
