my first thought is repairing the OS Try using the System Restore Tool and rolling the system back a few days. If this cannot be done, then insert the original CD and start setup and choose the repair option.

Set the BIOS to boot from the CD drive.

Insert your XP CD into the drive.

When Windows starts, choose the recovery console.

If it boots up to the point of stating that ntoskrnl is missing, then you should be able to run setup from the cd, if your system will not boot to the CD, then use a windows boot floppy and run setup from within that.
After setup starts it will identify any previous installs of windows. select the install to repair and then choose to repair windows.

Often the NTOSKRNL missing error means that more than that file is missing or corrupt, so it would be a good idea to scan your hard drive for errors as well (boot floppy). If you cant repair it then you have a few other choices.

First you can slave the drive to a different install and retreive your data, and reinstall XP. Or if your data isnt worth the hassle you can reinstall XP and lose your data.
