Clarification: Removing print servers

by chadyegenigmail In reply to Spooler or server?

Sorry I wasn't clear enough.

I have a lot of print spool servers in different locations. Does anybody know if there is a way to remove my print spool servers but still regain control over my printers, for example know how much my users are printing, have a way for helpdesk to server users, set up new printers etc. Is there such a solution?

Some printers are capable of acting as their own servers. You're going to need some form of server if you're going to do what you described.

...that if I have a central server, then print files will be sent back and forth over WAN, which I don't think is a good idea in our case since we have hundreds of printers in different locations. I am not sure how to solve this problem.
