How can I repair "Windows cannot connect to the domain"?

If the client does not log in within 30 seconds, they receive the following message:
"Windows cannot connect to the domain, either because the domain controller is down or otherwise unavailable, or because your computer account was not found."

The service is running Windows 2008 SP1

The client is running Windows XP Pro.

I have set the screensaver delay for 5 minutes in the registry of the server, and also tried changing the client computer from "domain" to "workgroup" to no avail.

Any help would be appreciated.

Well provided that the Server is operational

I would hazard a guess that you need to add this computer to the Domain.

But here I'm assuming that the system works if it logs in within the 30 second limit but if it doesn't log in within that time it fails to log onto the Domain.

If that is the case you need to check what the server is actually doing and anything between the Server and the workstation. Things like Hub's/Switches would be the obvious choice though it could be something as simple as the workstation being set to Auto-configure the IP Address and the server is expecting a Static Address or vice versa.

Do the Server Logs show anything at the times when the workstation does not log on?
