Not sure i understand what your looking to do

by markp24 In reply to how can i setup a domain ...

Hi,

My answers before were based on your request to setup a DC on an old box or what sounded like a system that you didn't have the budget for new hardware. So I advised the Virtual route. But then you replied that your tring to use a windows XP box as a Domain controller, that cannot be done.

please let me know if i am misinterpreting the question you posted.

What are you trying to do?

by Spitfire_Sysop In reply to how can i setup a domain ...

People sometimes want to set up a domain for imaginary reasons but they often don't need to. There are multiple ways to get things done. What is your actual goal?

P.S. XP cannot be a domain controller. Linux can use LDAP to provide authentication like AD. Is authentication all you need?

Well i dont really have a goal, just want to say i have one! And just to play around and see what i can do to manage my home computers. What i really want i guess it to beable to not need to go into every computer i have at my house and create the users i just want to add the computer to the doamin and then have the users be created auto on the clients.
