How can I setup a test lab network at home?

Hello,
I have a Motorola Modem from TWC and a Netgear Wireless Router. I’d like to setup a seperate test network where I can use DHCP on server 2012 to give out IP addresses.
PS Server 2012 is virtually installed on my laptop.

Please advise.
