Physical Damage?

by TheChas In reply to how can I solve my USB po ...

If only one USB port is not working, the most likely cause is that the port has been overloaded and the internal fuse on the 5 Volt power has opened.

It is very possible to overload a USB port with too many devices that draw power from the USB port. The maximum limit is around 2 amps. But, some laptop and desktop computers limit the USB power available to avoid damage to the motherboard.

For the front panel ports on a desktop, it is possible for a wire to come off inside the case.

Still, the best way to protect your USB ports is to use a powered hub for devices that are powered from the USB port.
