How can I stop WINWORD from starting up?

This is an interesting situation. Every time a client of ours boots his IBM Laptop, WINWORD is started. You can’t open Word without first using End Task. He is using Win98. I went into msconfig to remove things at startup and nothing works. I also checked everthing in sysedit and even searched around for references in regedit to no avail. In Safe Mode, it still loads. Does anyone have any thoughts on this other than a reinstall?

I’d go directly into the Startup folder. It could be that some file, like normal.dot, was accidently saved in that directory.
Sorry I can’t come up with a more specific answer.

Check the Properties of the Word shortcuts to make sure that there aren’t any switches.

In the Word help, if you look up “Control what happens when you start Microsoft Word,” it has the switches listed and what they do. There could be a macro setup to make it lauch at startup.

Hope this gives you some ideas to work with.
