How can I sync the time in Win98

By robert.newton ·
I have 5 Win98SE PC's that have are networked in a small office LAN. They currentyl all drift to different times and thus throw up fatal exception errors on programe that are linked between all five. Is there any way that I can sync the times of all5 of these PC's to one source thus maintaining only one time source?

How can I sync the time in Win98

If you have a "Always on" connection to the Internet, then you can use "Atomic Clock Sync". It is a FREE program from www.worldtimeserver.com

It can be set for any country world wide, set to access the atomic clock on a set schedule, and/or set toaccess at start-up (logon).

Works with all operating systems, put a copy on every machine, and it will set your servers and workstations to with a few thousandth of a second very the Atomic Clock.

Works wonders on my system....

Cheers
George

1. Decide which PC you would like to use as your "time server".
2. Open notepad.
3. Type in:
c:\windows\net.exe time \\<pc_name> /set /yes
<pc_name> is the name of the computer that will give its time to the other computers (your "time server")/set means to set the time to that of <pc_name>
/yes will set the time without prompting
4. Click File -> Save As, and type in time.bat. Save the file where you will remember its location.
5. Copy this file to the c:\windows\start menu\programs\startup folder of all the computers other than your time server.

When your other PCs boot, they will synchronize with your time server PC. However, you need to make sure that your time server is on before all the other PCs are booted.

from the command prompt try:
net time \\some-computer-name-here /set /yes

If this works make a new shortcut using the command above and put it the startup menu of the four computer you want to sync to some-computer-name

This works with NT-based systems, don't remember but it MIGHT require the computer to which you're sync'ing the time (some-computer-name) to be running NT to offer the time service. If that's the case you'll need to search for some third-party software to do your time sync and it will probably require that all the machines have internet connectivity.
