How can I view/ extract files from a UNIX volume in Windows XP Pro?

by nirmal . Updated 19 years, 5 months ago

In a nutshell, I have a failed boot up disc in an old Compaq Neoserver 150… a trusted “novice” appliance until now. A back-up is availble, but is only useable if the “server” is working.

I have taken the boot IDE disk (which contains files too) out of the server, and plugged in to a regular PC, and whilst the disc is recognised it is not registered and cannot be mapped as a drive “My Computer”… I understand why, but I was hoping magically that XP had something I did not know!

Is there any way I can get Windows to view and copy the files from this volume as naively I did not not have 2nd back up and there is years of work (and accounts) I need to urgently access.

The Neoserver runs a version of SCO Openserver 5 and fails on boot by stating no cron user can be found… I am not worried about correcting this problem as it is time to upgrade any way but as a 4 man small company the ramifications are disastrous at the moment.

Any help would be greatly appreciated; I’ve have been an avid and appreciative reader of techrepublic for many years!
