About

by AnsuGisalas In reply to How close to the truth?

Time magazine?
Or about Zuckenberg?

Wasn't Hitler MotY once, too?
Stalin? It's not just for good guys.

But if Zuckenberg is their best bet, they should have chosen a Woman of the Year in stead...

Hitler

by GSG In reply to About

Yes, Hitler was Time's man of the year sometime in the 30's. I watched a documentary on his pre-WWII years last week, and was surprised to see that.

Think of it as Newsmaker of the year

by JamesRL In reply to Hitler

They've had Hitler, Stalin, Hussein etc.

If you think of it as a newsmaker, all of them would fit the bill.

Its not necessarily an honor.

They never had Hussein, James

by NickNielsen In reply to Think of it as Newsmaker ...

They took so much crap in 1979 for naming the Ayatollah Khomeini as Man of the Year, it appears they gave up their journalistic integrity. Rather than renaming the award the "Newsmaker of the Year", they stopped naming controversial figures.

In 1991, when Saddam Hussein would have been the logical Man of the Year, they named Ted Turner. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Time_Person_of_the_Year

I'm sure they started the selection process earlier when the movie came out and all the hubub about half a billion users.

Assange made the fatal mistake of peaking too late.

Closer than their final selection

by NickNielsen In reply to How close to the truth?

The magazine editors shy from controversy. After being excoriated for their selection of the Ayatollah Khomeini, they have since ignored such newsmakes as suicide bombers, Osama bin Laden, and Saddam Hussein.

Limp dicks.
