How come I can get internet but can't get server?

By babznme ·
I have a client with 2 computers, one in front of office, one in back. Back one is wireless to router in front. Client has internet access and can get all over internet. Last week he could get to menu orders from his corporate servers site. Now he can't even get their main site on the internet. Both computers cannot access their server. It gives the screen that says 'network server timeout'. Yet when they go home, on their personal computer they can get to the server. Nothing changed as far as I can tell on the store's side. Why can't they access the company server? both IE and Mozilla give a timeout page. Please help, thanks!

Power off the routers, APs, and gateway (whatever they have) for 30 seconds or a minute, then bring them back up. Try again.

If that doesn't help, do nslookup or dig at the domain name of the internet site. Do you get the correct IP address(es) for this domain? You can compare with web tools like or which will also provide other information.

If you are getting the correct IP address but still no connection, you can have a look with addons for Mozilla like HTTPFox, Firebug, Web Developer Tools, etc. to see where the problem may be occurring. Or use WGET
e.g., wget -O -

If the problem is not at the "internet side" of this site, you'll have to talk to the techs at site about configuration or rights to access the servers on the enterprise network.
