How do I add a video to Facebook that won't add?

By JADavis9 ·
Can someone please teach me how to add a video to Facebook that won't add? I have asked Facebook for help on this issue many times during this past week after many failed upload attempts and I have gotten no response from them. I am following all of the proper methods and I never get an error during the upload. In fact, it seems to upload all they way and it says Upload Succeessful at the end of the upload. But then I always get an email from Facebook immediately that says Your video could not be processed.

I paid someone to make this video for me and I own the rights to it. It plays great on my Windows Media Player on my pc. It is a WMV video that Facebook lists as acceptable and it should be acceptable to Facebook since it just 10.12mb. It says on the upload page that it is acceptable if:
1. The video is under 1024 MB and under 20 minutes
2. The video was made by you or your friends.
3. You or one of your friends appears in the video.
Well, it was made by me or my "friends". No, I don't appear in the video, but this error message pops out way too quickly for that to be any part of the issue. It is a video tour of an office that I worked in. I just want to share it with my Friends on Facebook.

It may be a problem with codecs.

by seanferd In reply to How do I add a video to F ...

Perhaps the video was encoded in a manner judged to be not viewable by most uses. You can try converting this to another format and try uploading the converted copy.

Check also the properties and metadata to be sure there is nothing in there to suggest that it is copyrighted content owned by another party.

Didn't include and copyrighted music, did you?

Otherwise, I don't know. FB is a mess of changing rules and horrible support. I generally have no truck with it, but I see the appeal for some people for whom it can be useful. Good luck to all of you!

Thanks! I am so new to this stuff that I don't know anything about Codecs or even how to convert a video to another format. How do I do that?
Also, I own the license and I paid to have it made. The sight that built this video for me in 2006 shows my license and gives me a link to download this WMV video. The video plays great on my Windows Media Player. You can watch it at http://www.previewfirst.com/vt/video/6935. This site shows my license #. I paid to have this video created and right now I pay an annual fee to have it hosted. The site where I login and manage the hosted tour has a button to download a WMV copy.

My video did have music that was probably copyrighted. I hadn't thought of that. Thanks!
I have already downloaded a new version of a freeware called Advanced X Video Converter and in this new version it has a new feature called "Video Only (Remove the Audio Track From Video) ". I'll try using it to remove the music and then maybe the video will upload and process onto Facebook. That copyrighted music is probably why the Facebook system sends me a message automatically, shortly after a succesful upload that says "Your video could not be processed"!
About Facebook's appeal ... at first, I felt the same way as you seem to feel. But I have grown to like it and I have uploaded a ton of pics from my past NASCAR driving career, businesses that I owned in the past and of my family etc. It seems like a cool way for friends and family to see those old pics without digging thru boxes of old photos!
Yes, their rules do seem to be in a constant state of change, but something is obviously working for them. Heck, there is even that Social Network movie out about just Facebook. Have you seen it? It's pretty cool and timely!

To convert a Video File you need Software

by OH Smeg In reply to How do I add a video to F ...

You can try this piece of software

http://download.cnet.com/Ultra-WMV-Converter/3000-2194_4-10356528.html

And convert the Video to something more acceptable to FB but as I do not use either FB or this Software I'm not sure just how well it will work.

FB is a real Security Mess as they change their Standards on a almost daily basis or at least it feels that way. So what works today may not work tomorrow or next week.

You realize of course if you upload it, FB will own it

by Slayer_ In reply to How do I add a video to F ...

And all rights to it, and you will not be able to delete it off their servers. They will keep it for many years.

Are you sure you want that?

I'm not sure if having Facebook "own" it would be a problem. I'm not sure if I will ever have a need to use it for anything else. Can you give me help understanding how I might not want them to "own" it?

I need a different converter or just skip this?

by JADavis9 In reply to How do I add a video to F ...

I was told by the folks that made the Advanced X Video Converter that their program does not work on my file to alter it to a Video Only. In fact, they experimented on a copy that I sent them. They said that their product doesn't support the video codec in this wmv file. Well, I don't know anything about codecs!
I guess that if I want to do this, I will need a different converter. So, maybe I will just skip this and move on to other things!
Thanks for any help that you have given to me.

I am "so" not into it! I didn't remember, but I had already apparently created 2 YouTube accounts and it uploaded easily into both. So I saved both links and made both viewable by anyone. I tried to click on something on one of them that said that it would connect it or post it on my Facebook, but that failed. So where do you think that I should post it on my Facebook page that would be easily noticed by any friend visiting?
