I'm not sure this will resolve the problem, but I know you won't be able to browse other workstations if the workgroup is different. If the workgroup (Network Properties>Identification tab) is different on the remote workstations, change them to be exactly the same as the workgroup on the local workstations.

Hope this works. Good luck.

If you install WINS(Windows Internet Name Service) on your NT server, and point all your clients to the NT server for the WINS IP address(TCP/IP properties), they will register their names with WINS. You should then be able to browse any clients that have registered with WINS, it shouldn't matter which subnet they are on.

To install WINS, on your NT server, go to the network icon in control panel. Go to the services tab and click add. WINS should be on the list, install it. You will needthe NT server CD. Now, on all clients including the NT server, go to the properties for TCP/IP. There should be a WINS tab. Set the IP address for the Primary WINS server to the IP address of your NT server(that you just installed WINS on). Reboot the clients and wait. Within about a half hour or so, maybe less, you should be able to browse your remote clients through network neighborhood.

Good luck.

The best way to connect is to follow Davis's advice on setting up WINS.

However a quick and easy way to connect to machines not on your subnet would be to set up a LMHosts file.
1. Create a text file in your c:\windows directory
2. list theIP address and then tab over and type in the NetBIOS name.

ie. C:\Windows\LMHosts (simple text file)

23.233.14.12 Tim

WINS doesn't form the list of PCs that appears in the network neighborhood on an NT Domain, WINS is used only to resolve NetBIOS names to IP address. Computers that are called Browse Masters do this. In an NT Domain the Browse Master for the Domain is the Primary Domain Controller. The Backup Domain Controllers are Backup Browse Masters and they recieve their list of computer names from the Primary Domain Controller. In order to have your users all be able to browser to each others computers you will have to have them authenticate via a Domain Controller (create accounts in the User Manager for Domains) enable File and Print Sharing on the PC.

In a non-domain enviorment the Browse Master for a Workgroup may be variable and is determined by an election (Domains hold elections also, just in Domains PDC always win). Each type of computer has an assigned election value and these values are compared and the machine with the highest value becomes the Browse Master. The order of PC values from highest t
