how do i change bios options on lenovo thinkcentre?

    Locked

    by thisbedave1992 ·

I have a Lenovo ThinkCentre desktop computer. i bought it off a primary school, as they were mistakenly given one too many during their new shipment of computers. i have just tried installing vista (sad i know, but its the only thing better than xp that i have) and now whenever i boot the computer up, it says in the bios, after loading its startup thing, that the system has been tampered with, and then it asks me if i want to continue. it asks me to either press f1 or f2. f2 being continue, and f1 being setup. if i go into setup, it does not give me the option to save my changes and exit. It only allows me to exit without saving. How do i change this whitchcraft?

      Clarify: what error message exactly?

The BIOS says the system has been tampered with?

I would suspect that maybe a part inside is unplugged, such as the battery or the CD-ROM, therefore the BIOS is asking you to confirm the change, and if the battery were unplugged, it could not save it.

It’s rather unusual that a school would sell a brand new computer on the side like that. That sounds somewhat, well, illegal.

Also if admin lockout is setup in the bios

You may have 2 bios modes, user and admin,

if you entering as user you cannot save changes. you will need to enter as admin.

yeah, i know it seems suss. but im the legal and certified contractor that works with/for them. i get there old gear to screw with, and they give me steady work, and occasionaly if my computer has an issue like this one, where i dont know how to fix it, they allow me to use their computers as long as i give the students a computing class.

and NO, i did not file any numbers off. that’s what grinders are used for. jeez people, get with the program.

dont worry anyway. i just got the shits with it, and removed all power sources, battery included and then ran a light fridge magnet over the bios. works like a charm.
