I’m trying to download windows 11 with my dad, we tried to turn on secure start but it doesn’t work because we are not on uefi windows, we are in legacy, we went to the ASUS bios settings and went to CSM he changed some settings to uefi but when we turn on the computer it boots right into the BIOS settings, we went back and apparently it has something to do with my hard drive and after searching some stuff up he said he’s gonna have to restart my pc which sounds like a pain, is there an easier way to do this?

Your Hard disk, which is in the MBR mode of format needs to be formatted in the GPT standard for UEFI boot to work.
Merely enabling UEFI in the BIOS will not do.

I would suggest getting a SSD, format it to GPT, install windows in that.

My lesson. NEVER format a drive ahead of installing Windows.

Leave it BLANK with no partitions. Let the Windows installer prepare the drive.

I’ve lost count of the number of machines that show up at the shop to install Windows. The client asks how we installed Windows when they failed. Invariably they are surprised we don’t format the drive prior to install. We just make it blank. No partitions.

It’s a mystery why such bad advice continues to be given.

Frankly I’d stick with Windows 10 for now. But if you must and you have drivers at the ready, sure, your choice.

Open Command Prompt with administrator privileges.
      Issue the following command: mbr2gpt.exe /convert /allowfullOS.
Shut down and boot into your BIOS.
Change your settings to UEFI mode.
