How do I close Port 139 NetBIOS

By JohnathanPeter ·
After installing zonealarm I have found that my computer has detected some IP Address trying to connect to my Port 139 NetBIOS.

What does TCP Flag S mean?

How can I disable the Netbios (if any)on Windows 2000 and Windows XP?

The firewall has blocked Internet access to 203.120.95.139 (NetBIOS Session) from your computer [TCP Flags: S].

Actually ZoneAlarm blocked access going OUT FROM your computer. Perhaps you have some devious software (spyware) trying to report on you? Or a trojan?

The IP address is issued to Pacific Internet Limited, a company in Singapore. see http://www.amnesi.com/hostinfo/ipinfo.jhtml?ip1=203&ip2=120&ip3=95&ip4=139&Search=Lookup+Name&wholeIp=203.120.95.139

I found this answer after searching at google.com for "close port 139 on windows 2000" (1 of many answers):

You can use the "Options" tab after clicking the "Advanced" button of your TCP\IP Properties for any network card to filter the protocols and ports you would like. You can designate a list of Ports and Protocols you will only allow or you can pick ports and protocols to restrict.

Good luck!

P.S. Download and run Ad-aware from http://www.lavasoftUSA.com. It will search for and give you the option to remove spyware and stuff like that. It's free!

Also, one trick I do is before reading e-mail from an unknown source I disable the internet connection by clicking the lock in ZoneAlarm. That way, if any web bugs or html try to report back to the e-mail's sender, they will be stopped.

For a complete discussion of port access and shutting done netbios access to/from the internet see Steve gibson's website (www.grc.com). He can be a bit overbearing but has alot of good security information and testing software on-line. See particularly https://grc.com/x/ne.dll?bh0bkyd2
